Today was my last day of work. I had a great time at my internship. I really hope i find a job like the one I had here. It was a great environment to work in and really fun. I finished the model completely today. I was actually really impressed with how the final piece looked. I was actually sad that I couldn't take it with me.but I cant. The little details I added made it look even better. I put a fence in as well as the outdoor shower and a few little people. I was overall happy with my project. My Mentor took me to lunch today which was very nice. I'm very happy with the internship that I chose. I met some great people in the process. I will have the photos of my project posted to my Link Project page later tonight or earlier tomorrow.
Today I finished my model. I started out by redoing the two panels on the top of the house so it looked better. I then finished the porch that was causing me trouble because of how it was shaped. But I figured out a way by using two different pieces to put it together. I then put the roof on the cabana and finished the porch or the back of the house. I also added trees to the model to make it look nicer. But at the end of the day we realized that I was missing the chimney. So tomorrow I will put the chimney on and maybe add some blue teal paper to the pool to finish it off. I will take photos of it once it is done to add to my Link Project page. I'm looking forward to seeing what the final product will look like.
I unfortunately wasn't able to finish the model today. I tried but I ran out of time. Its been a very frustrating process mainly because the angles on some sections of the roof were not cooperating. I really only have two more pieces that I have to put together. The last porch which is the hardest piece because of how its shaped. And the roof on the cabana. I'm hoping I can finish it before 12 tomorrow. Besides that its been an interesting process. The model is not perfect. I tried my best but there are a few flaws but its okay. I'll post some photos once it is finished.
Today was a very long day. I stayed a little later than I usually do working on the model. Today I set a goal to finish the roof. I actually completed the roof but it was very tedious. I had to redo a lot of pieces because they wouldn't fit correctly. I eventually was able to make it work. So all I have to do tomorrow is the porches and the cabana. I also was able to do the mentor interview today which was really cool to listen to what my mentor had to say because he gave me a lot of good tips to learn about what to do when looking for schools or what classes to take. He also told me that he went to a two year community college and had gotten all his normal classes out of the way and had gotten his grade point average up before going to a university. He did this so he could focus on design and architecture and had taken design classes at the two year college and had experience in the field. I thought it was a very smart idea. I really enjoyed the interview and getting to here what my mentor had to say.
Today was a very eventful day. I got to the office and my mentor out of nowhere says, "Rex, Are you ready to go?" I had no idea what he was talking about but it ended up being that we were going to see all of the job sights. The first one, I helped him move windows for the house that they had been rebuilding because it flooded last year. Then we went to this interesting house that overlooked the harbor and it was lie a 1980 wall street house, and it was ironic because my mentor later told me that the people's grandmother who owned it was the creator of the wall street journal. We then went to the house we went to last week. I realized my mentor does a lot of work. Unfortunately I didn't get the chance to do the interview with him so I'm hoping in can on Monday. Then for the rest of the day i worked on my model and my motor happened to mention that he needed it done by Tuesday night. I think I'll be able to finish before than.
Today I Started out by placing the pop outs on the side of the house. I used foam board to make it pop out a little more than poster board. I next started to think about how I was going to put the roof on, and in the process, I realized that this it is going to be more difficult than I thought because the house has many different pieces that intersect on the roof. I decided to take things slow so it looks very professional, but it is going to be difficult. I also scheduled my mentor interview for tomorrow. I'm looking forward to hearing how my mentor got to were he is in his career.
Today I started out by using the new blue prints to create my model without having the porch be apart of the structure. But once I started cutting, I got a little detracted and cut a little part of my finger off. But it was okay. It was a little bit and I got a band-aid and was good to go. That was the only downside of the day. Once I started working on the model again, and putting up the walls, my mentor taught me a trick to use to make sure that the walls go up completely straight by putting a straight edge against the wall. This made it a lot easier to glue. I ran int o a issue with the pop outs that are part of the living room because the roof didn't match up with the side.I hope that tomorrow I can put the roof porches, and stairs up because then I will have completed my Link project, and will possibly be able to use the architect design program and will be able to design some of my own buildings.
Today was pretty easy because I only had to cut out sections of the house because my mentor needs to print out another set of blue prints without the railing in the back round but he has been at one of his job sights the majority of the time. I also figured out that my mentor has a lot more projects that he has been working on than I thought. So I'm hoping tomorrow I can finish putting the walls glued down and maybe start on the porches so I can finish the entire house by Friday.
Today my mentor was off island, so he printed me out some blue prints of the next model that I would be working on. It is a house that Sand Castle is building so I will be able to use that as a representation of the house. I did the same process. Cut each of the blue prints out section by section, then used spray glue and pasted them on poster board. Cut each piece once it had dried. I haven't started working on putting it together yet because this house is much more complex than the last house that I did. My motor would like to do the entire foundation rather than just the building. So I will have to do the pool, pool house, trees, front and back yard, and trees. Since I'm not really sure how to do that I am waiting. But I started to finish my previous model by putting the roof on. It was a little challenging because two sections of the roof intersected so I had to measure and trim sections of the side so that they could fit together. I think that it looks pretty good considering the fact that it is really the first model I have ever built. So I'm pretty satisfied with it. I'll be posting a few photos below this to show what it looks like. Today I went to one of my mentors jobs sights with him and help move appliances that his company had made for the kitchen. It was interesting to see how every little thing matters because what happened was there was an uneven floor and wall that messed everything up for where the counter top was going to be. Making it that they will have to build a different base with a grade so it matches up with the floor. I then went back to the office to finish up my model and I have been having trouble putting the roof on because there is two overlapping parts of the roof as well as the entry way which is cutting into the one of the parts of the roof. So I think on Monday I will finish up by putting the last pieces on and then start my final model and my mentor wants to one 1/8 of the size of the house than do one a little bigger to give more detail as well as the entire foundation of the house.
