Whirlybird Lab
Purpose: To measure vertical velocity (Fall Rate) of two unique whirly birds.
Materials: Small paper clip, paper for whirly bird, scissors, timer (stopwatch), tape measure
Procedure: 1 cut out the copy of the Whirly Bird. 2) After cutting out the whirly bird, cut along the side lines of the bird, and fold the sides out in opposite directions. 3) Place a paper clip on the very bottom papers that are folded together to make a whirly bird. 4) Measure the height from the ground to the roof using a tape measure. 5) Now, holding the whirly bird from the roof, drop it and take the time, using a stopwatch, for it to fall from the roof to the ground. 6) Repeat the entire procedure, only this time without a paper clip.
