Today I started out by finishing up the back side of the porch. I then added a ground level and a slope to make it more accurate to the actual building. I then put stairs and beams on the porch and entryway. Tomorrow I will finish up the model by putting the railing on the porch, place a chimney on the side, and finish the roof. Once I finish that model, I will start on the model for the house that my mentor is currently building. I’m pretty excited to start working on the model for the new house because I have built the model for the house that I am currently working on 3 times so I’m ready for a new challenge.
Today I started to build a model with a different technique. I started out by having the blue prints cut out in full sections of the house then pasting the entire piece on poster board. rather than doing each little section at a time. Next I used a heavier straight edge and changed the blade on my x-acto knife more frequently to keep a finer edge. I also stared using clamps to make sure that nothing would move when i was cutting the pieces. I also started to cut the corners of the pieces at a 45 degree angle so that they would fit together more easily. I also use a different type of glue to make the structure more sturdy. I think that this model will look very nice. I hope.
Today when I arrived at work, i started working on my model but I was having trouble keeping it level. So I started to redo the model. My mentor had printed me out some new blue prints for me to stencil out on poster board and I had decided to level it all out because the model of the house I'm doing is on a slope. I started to put the pieces together and glue them to the base and it was looking really nice when then I realized that the garage would be cut in half because of the slope so I had to start over again. It is a long process but I'm sure all get it down soon. My mentor has been fairly busy working on his project so its been a little difficult getting help so I have been getting better at doing things for myself and hopefully by the end of this process, I will be able to build an outstanding model.
Today was my first day at my internship. I started off my day by going to a local coffee shop before heading to work. I arrived at my work at 9 and wasn't sure what I would expect. Because it is Nantucket, most of the work buildings look like houses so I wasn't sure how it would look. When I got inside the building it was very warm. That being that it has been 23 degrees on the island and snowing so it is a little cold. My boss was a little late. I walked upstairs to the office and met a few of the employees. My boss had started me out with a model that I can practice building from one of his previous projects. I had to cut out the floor plan and paste it on top of foam board. Then I cut out each side of the house and past and cut out each piece on poster board. Once I had finished trimming the pieces, I started to glue the pieces together, but the work day was over before I could finish. I guess we will see what I I’ll do tomorrow.
